AREAS OF PRACTICE

At our firm, we provide a wealth of experience throughout a range of services in both litigation and office practice. We also have relationships with lawyers throughout Kansas, allowing us to draw on lawyers with particular skills as each client’s needs indicate.

Areas of legal service we offer include, but are not limited to:

DIVORCE, ANNULMENT & PATERNITY

Our team handles all aspects of domestic law, which include the issues of spousal support, property division, child support, and more. For those who want to legally separate, but remain married, we also prepare Legal Separations, also known as Separate Maintenance, and Post Nuptial Agreements. No matter your domestic law needs, we are able to meet our client’s unique needs and craft a specific approach to their individual situation.

CHILD SUPPORT

The Kansas Child Support Guidelines govern how child support is allocated in Kansas. The non-custodial parent pays basic child support, a set monthly amount of money, to the custodial parent for the benefit of the child. family

The custodial parent is the parent who has primary residential placement of the child or is the parent who earns less money in a case where shared residency applies. The noncustodial parent is the parent who has visitation with the child or earns more money where shared residency applies.

In some situations, a parent may fail to pay their child support obligation for various reasons. Law Office of V. Linnea Alt, Chartered, can assist clients in recovering unpaid child support. In other situations, the non-custodial parent has lost their job or suffered an injury that prevents them from working. We can assist our clients in modifying their child support obligations.

CHILD CUSTODY

Law Office of V. Linnea Alt, Chartered, is highly skilled in assisting with child custody matters. The initial determination of custody – the first time the parents go to court and obtain a custody order – is an important part of the custody process as it establishes where the child will reside during the pendency of the case, which could be a lengthy period of time. When parents are unable to agree to custodial arrangements either at the time of the initial child custody determination or later, a judge must determine what custodial arraignment is in the best interests of the child based upon the facts presented to the judge during the child custody adjudication. This is a highly emotional time for any parent and our knowledgeable staff will help guide you through the process.

PREMARITAL AGREEMENTS

Premarital agreements are a common legal step taken before marriage. A premarital agreement establishes the property and financial rights of each spouse in the event of marriage dissolution. Premarital agreements are often used to protect the personal property and real estate owned by the spouses, but also can protect family businesses and sole proprietorships, protect future earnings, and serve other important functions. Our attorneys can help you decide whether a premarital agreement is right for you. While no one is thinking about a divorce when they get married, it’s often prudent to at least consider a premarital agreement as most states are now “no fault” divorce states.

ADOPTION

Law Office of V. Linnea Alt, Chartered, handles all types of adoptions to include step-parent adoptions, grandparent adoptions, surrogate-involved adoptions, and traditional third-party adoptions. Whether it is time to adopt a child with whom you have an established parent-child relationship or you are preparing for a new addition to your family, our staff has the knowledge and expertise to assist you.
